November 4 – November 20, 2010

Opening Reception: Thursday, November 4th, 2010 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Nisus Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new works by Claudia Porter entitled “Barbie”. Moving from earlier figurative work to abstract work, now back to figurative inspiration, Porter is adding new dimensions with a Pop twist and a digital canvas. The iconic Barbie, simple and stylized, is given recognizable points of reference through her abstract eye.
“Barbie”, the plastic and the ideal, has important elements of Pop culture and lifelong friends for Porter. The recognizable is treated to give a uniquely distinct character of each portrait. We can imagine the stories children made up to give their Barbies life. Porter begs us to guess her stories both real and imagined.
“Barbie” will be on exhibit at Nisus Gallery, 328 NW Broadway #117 (at Flanders), from November 4 through November 20, 2010. The opening reception is on First Thursday, October 4th from 6-9pm. Nisus Gallery is open Saturday’s 11-4 pm and by appointment. The Gallery will be closed on November 27, Thanksgiving weekend.
